  • FYI -- Concerta has gone generic...

Our pharmacy called us a couple of weeks ago after I had dropped off a prescription. They asked if I wanted to get it filled w/ generic Concerta. We didn't b/c they wouldn't have it for "maybe" 5 days and we didn't have enough on hand to take it that far. However, I will try the generic for DD next month -- saves at least $30/month. Hopefully it will have the same efficacy.

    Here too...

Yes, last month I filled my DS's RX and the Pharm said they just got it in... so we filled it! We have found no difference... so far it is the same as "name brand".

Canada, so maybe things are different but DS was supposed to be on the generic (my insurance company will only pay for the cost of the generic drug without a special dispensation) and wasn't.

When we filled his first prescription the pharmacist explained that especially with Concerta his patients comment that there is a difference between the generic and the brand name - no one knows why. He told us that both drugs worked but that kids reacted differently (and therefore dosage was adjusted different) to the different compositions and whatever we picked first we should stick with. I picked the generic and then wondered why my insurance paid so little. When I went to renew his prescription at a different pharmacy I found out it was because, despite my instructions, he'd been given brand name. Sigh. Worked out in the end because the pharmacist was able to get him into a program (that will end without warning) whereby the drug company picks up the difference between the generic price and the brand name. Somehow when the math was done I actually came out ahead and his drugs were free. But at some point (as early as his next renewal) this program will end I and we will have to figure out what we need to do next. I'm kind of taking an ostrich approach to this at present.

We switched 2 weeks ago to Concerta

Wasn't willing to take the generic since the Concerta works wonders. I'll be curious to see if anyone has any experience with it. Then maybe I'll try. It's a $10 a month difference, which for now, I can afford, so I'll stick to it.

Her annual physical is next Tuesday. We will discuss w/ ped (and get a refill for whatever). She also most likely take a med "vacation" for the summer. I need to discuss it w/ her and the ped. I can afford the difference in price but I've gotten hit hard w/ my new Rx plan so I'm already paying $150 more per month (at least) for all of my meds.

Keep us updated-those who use the generic. I know some kiddos have issue with generics meds sometimes. Either side effects or not as good effect.

            Fingers crossed!
