  • Recreational Therapy Assessment

Anyone had a recreational therapy assessment done? I have just read about this. I have concerns that my dd (global dyspraxia, apraxia, CP) and her delayed social skills doesnt interact typically on the playground etc. Looking for any insights (appropriate age, assessment modalities, etc.) She is almost 6 and in Kindi. She is currently placed in a blended inclusion class.
    Thanks,

I've never heard of a recreational therapy assessment.

What sort of things does it measure and what type of professional administers the assessment?

Wow, I had never heard of this

and so I can't give you much input in terms of your daughter. I'm going to look into it for my DS 11yo. He has Aspergers and the social difference is becoming greater each year. If I'd have to guess I'd say he could have started to benefit from something along these lines 2nd or 3rd grade. Please keep me informed on what you decide/do. I appreciate the links as I'm getting ready for an IEP overhaul at the end of the month and the cornerstone is social skills (which took 2 years to even get listed within his IEP).

I had never heard of it either! But it makes so much sense. I mentioned it to the admin person assigned to my dd, she tried to pooh-pooh it, but when I mentioned it was specifically mentioned in IDEA, she back peddled and said it was difficult to find assessors. I had heard about thru a friend who heard about it at an autism support group meeting.

On the fence to ask for it right now as we are just starting the assessment processes for the Tri. The school has already set aside 2 days of 3 hours each. Maybe in the spring so it's in place for the Fall when dd will be in 1st grade.
