  • Would dark-colored bath mats be a bad idea?

My bathroom currently has ivory fabric mats that are just dingy and stained and gross and need replacing. The walls are taupe, all the countertops, cabinets, shower, tub, tiles etc are white. I have a window treatment that is like a deep burgundy, mustard, a little bit of ivory and olive.

I am debating about burgundy for bath mats--I think the contrast will look good (I will need 4 total-1 for in front of each sink, one in front of tub, one in front of shower) but I worry they may show dirt easily (though probably no more than ivory!). Or should I just look for boring neutral taupe?

I have burgundy bath mats in our master bathroom

Our bathroom is ivory and cream and I love them!
The do show lint from the towels, but I just keep them washed. I love ours! It makes our bathroom really rich looking!
    Hugs,
    Mary Ann

Honestly, I have been thinking of darker bath mats as well... I feel like no matter how often I was the ones we have now, they get so grey looking so fast (they are light blueish). So I think you should go for it!

I have chocolate brown and love them! (M

I went from more neutral tones also, and I am so glad I did. One tip though - don't wash the mats with anything else.... you can get lighter colored lint stuck on them (same with dark towels).

I've always had dark towels/bathmats - another note

I'd do it again (I picked dark towels so they wouldn't show stains and could be washed with jeans), BUT

Dark towels/mats make the lint that collects in the bathroom (the stuff that doesn't collect if you do a Flylady Swipe every day, but if you don't swipe, eventually prompts you to scrunge the back of the toilet) DARKER and MORE OBVIOUS.

Just FYI.... Like I said, I'd go with darker towels again, but I notice a differnce in bathroom dust color when I've got darker towels out.

I used to have darker bath mats, but just recently picked up 2 ivory bath mats at Bed Bath & Beyond because all my old ones were getting very ratty and worn. I'm regretting buying the ivory, they show dirt so quickly, I should wash them every week! :-)
