  • What is non-detergent soap (for laundry)? m

I got a very nice Barbour waxed cotton jacket for Christmas. It has gotten nasty faster than any coat I've ever worn. It is bizarre. It looks like I've been wearing it to work construction! I need to clean it, but it says to wash it with NON-DETERGENT soap (AND to lay flat to dry@@@ great).
Looking around online, it appears that people who have to wash camping gear run into this--but I'd rather not have to buy special tent soap or something. Anything else? Maybe soething from Whole Foods or Trader Joes?
    Thanks!

    One thing I know...

Is that while people will *tell* you Dreft is "not a detergent," that is not true anymorel. Once upon a time, it was a laundry soap that was non-detergent, but now it is not.

I beleive Ivory Flakes is still non-detergent, if you can find it.

I also think outdoor stores sell stuff that isn't too expensive, for washing things like Gor-Tex, which also is supposed to be washed in non-detergent laundry soap...

        Ivory Snow

Or you could do what our grandmothers did and that's to shave Fels Naptha soap into the wash tub filled with water and let it agitate and dissolve and then add the clothes.
