  • Looking for something other than potatoes to serve with ham

I'm getting a bit tired of my tried and true potato recipe and I'm thinking of branching out a bit. Any other side dish that is good with ham?

lasagna! that's DH's vote... what can I say, it's the Italian heritage.

mac & cheese goes well with ham, maybe google some recipes using cheeses like gruyere or swiss, for a tastier version?

I don't have SILs recipe handy, but here is one

from allrecipes.com that looks about right...can you go wrong with fruit, cheese, and bread?

                  INGREDIENTS
                  1 cup butter
                  1 2/3 cups white sugar
                  6 eggs
1 (15 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
                  9 slices bread, cubed
                  1/3 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
                  DIRECTIONS
                  Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated. Fold in pineapple and bread. Pour into 9x13 inch baking dish.
Bake in preheated oven 1 hour, until center springs back when touched lightly. Sprinkle cheese evenly over top and return to oven to melt cheese, 2 to 5 minutes.

                    Spoon Bread!

It's a cornmeal custard, almost like a souffle. Yummy

Googling gives a bunch of recipes of varying complexity - I'd suggest looking through a few to get the idea, if your basic cookbook doesnt' have one (I'm pretty sure my Fanny Farmer does have one)

What about a broccoli cheese rice casserole? That sounds so good to me, I just might make it to go with my moms ham........

How about stuffing/dressing or seasoned wild rice?

Corn pudding, candied sweet potatoes, potato salad...

aspragus, baked rice (this is quite good and always comes out perfectly).
