ISO Fifties costume...

I am desperately trying to find a 50's costume for next weekend, when dh and I attend a party. I really want a car hop, soda shop girl type outfit. Most of the ones I have found are "standard" size and fit up to a size 8. Really?! You call that "STANDARD?" Then I guess I must be EXTRA standard because I need probably a 12 to make sure it's not too tight and I for sure do not want "the girls" hanging out all night either. This is a dh work people weekend event (Army National Guard) and the last thing I need is to be the "boob wife." Trust me, one year a wife was all lit up and got up and danced around her husband and has forever been called "stripper wife" because she was dancing like her husband was a pole and she was getting paid!

Anyway, I digress. Has anyone found a good costume rental place, or purchasing place? I also need to find dh a leather "Grease" type jacket for dh, who will likely wear jeans and a white t-shirt with it and call it a day.

can you make your own?...

blue jeans with rolled up legs to capri length, white blouse (peter pan collar if you have one), cardigan sweater (stitch a letter on the back, or pin a silk flower at the collar), silk scarf tied around your neck, penny loafers or keds.

If you feel really ambitious you can make your own poodle skirt - it is a simple circle skirt - I dont sew but I have made one of these for a costume.
