I used to be a frustrated shover, now I am a happy

    spice rack alphabetizer.

I am a speedy, not-too-into-it cook, so it helps that I can find things *quickly*. Now I don't have to curse and askk for dh's help to find the spice I want!

Reform - it will do you good!

Mine is pretty simple. Lower shelf, on one side, all

I'm going from the "just shove it in where ever it will fit and hope nothing falls out the next time someone opens the door" method

      to something much more organized/anal.

For now, I am grouping like spices together. eg. all italian, all kinds of peppers, baking spices, random don't fit in any group spices.

Then I started wondering if I should alphabetize instead. I know, I'm nuts

      So what do you do?

oooo, just realized I could have done this as a poll
the spices I use most frequently. Each one has its place, so it always go back there. (Dh is not allowed to mess with the spices since he doesn't respect the place rules.) Then, on that same shelf, the other common spices I use, but not as often.

The second shelf has my least used spices, usually the ones for baking like nutmeg and cloves. The very top shelf has my larger jars of spices because they are taller and look nice altogether.

      Functional, nothing fancy.

My kitchen remodelers did it, but I bet you can find them at any organization store or Home Depot type place.

Are your spices always this neat? Even with a drawer organizer, I can imagine that my spice labels would be front, sideways & backwards and mixed up!

I currently hate my spice arrangement BUT

that's because I haven't got space for something better. When I did have room to arrange them, I had them in alphabetical order. I can never remember the catagories I put things into and spices are hard to catagorize anyway, at least by cusine. What ever you do, I'd stick to alphabetical order. It's just a lot easier.

I have the 2 stairstepped things on the lower shelf of a double cabinet.

Mine are alphabetized, starting in the top back corner. Truthfully, I think the best way is to have them in a drawer. This is fairly easy, but I find myself still knocking things off when I reach into the back for basil, cinnamon or another common one. Come to think of it, maybe I should try reorganizing into baking vs. cooking with most used in the front. That seems smart to me!

Once again, I learn something from the wise women of PNO!

              Guess again!

And only one kind of cinnamon.

Do I use them all? Yes. But I'm getting in the habit of using more fresh herbs too.
