I get in, do my thing, and get out. I shave and double condition my hair. It doesn't take long.
Me too, shaving and all. I time myself regularly because my kids (6 & 9) don't seem to "get it" and take very long showers unless continually prompted to move on to the next task. So I am conscious of my own time in the shower to make sure I'm not yelling at them for something I do.
That said, I have short, fine hair so it takes a mere second or two to wash it, then condition it.
you can flush left often...ick; wash dishes in dishwasher only when full; turn water off while brushing teeth; we use a britta filter for water in the fridge, so we don't run the water in the sink until cold to get a glass of water; we have a unit in the basement that takes water out of the air, we use that to water plants in the house and in the garden one time a day.
8-10 minutes typically. DH takes forever in the shower - up to 20 minutes. He is usually the one screaming about me being wasteful too. We do conserve everything where we can. We've started recycling everything that we can, and that has made a huge visual impact to our whole family. We only have one garbage bag to put out with the trash now. Of course the curbside recycling doesn't take most of the stuff, so we have to store and take it to the recycle center ourselves.
But if your water bill was higher than usual and the rates haven't gone up, and you don't think your usage has changed from last month, you should think about if you might have a leak somwhere. Compare the bill to April of last year (if you still have it) and see if it's significantly different. I think you should do the mellow yellow thing. With two boys who pee frequently, and your bladder that only holds a teaspoon of pee at a time, you should decide to flush only every 2 or 3 pees. Also, if you want to shorten your showers, you should turn the water off while shaving, you might start to get a little cold, but once you turn it back on, you'll warm up very quickly. I hate low flow shower heads, and with your ultra thick curly hair, you'd probably just have to shower longer to get all the conditioner out, so it might not make a difference for you. Make absolutely sure you don't run the water while washing/rinsing dishes. Just turn it on and off as needed. And make sure clothes are worn more than once if they don't stink. I know on days where ds hasn't gotten too dirty, I can put his tops and shorts/pants right back in the drawer. Laundry is a great place you can save on water.

Aside from peeing/flushing about 100 times a day (I am bladder-challenged, what can I say?), I realized that I take fairly long showers every morning. I can't help it - I just find it relaxing, (as a SAHM, I don't get much alone time . . . ) and plus I have lots of hair to wash and/or condition - and often lots of hair to shave too, LOL!!
So, I was just wondering how long other people's showers typically last. I'm not going to reveal my number until I see what other people say first.
I shower as soon as I get up and I get in there and start thinking and planning my day and trying to wake up and suddenly realize I've been in there a long time. This morning I actually thought I might have fallen asleep in there -- you know how you suddenly come back into consciousness. I can get it all done most days in 5 min. max if I think about it. I probably take 15. My DSs are bad too. They shower until I knock on the door and tell them to turn off the water. We need to work on that. Maybe a timer in the bathroom.
I remember a friend who lived with her FIL when they were 1st married and his rules for taking a shower were that you briefly got wet, turned off the water while you soaped up and then turned it back on for a quick rinse. I think this is the military way. She didn't last long there!

I love my morning shower. I have major sinus issues and it helps my sinuses drain every morning. I never rush in the shower, it is the one thing I do for myself everyday. On weekends when DH is home I probably stay in there even longer because I always feel better in the shower.
As for peeing and flushing -- I often pee and shut the lid and only flush every other time. Not, of course, if people will be over but if it is just me (the kids I have flush so they learn to). OK -- that was my TMI gross confession of the day...but I'm getting interested in being "green" and that is one way.
My big sin is I let the water run when I brush my teeth -- but I do that to let it get hot enough to wash my face, so I feel justified.
