  • orange wall paint?

    Hi everyone!

I'm a shy lurker, but I remember reading someone here say that they had been experimenting with orange paint in their home. I'm trying to come up with a shade of orange for my kitchen that is warm and decorative, not bright and pumpkin-y. I tried Home Depot Behr "Spiced Pumpkin" on the wall today. Wow, pretty bright even though it looked muted on the sample card. My kitchen has white tile, medium oak cabinets and a medium tone wood floor. There is actually not a lot of wall space so I thought I could pull off a color like orange. Now I'm not so sure.

    Any experience or suggestions appreciated!

Is there a lot of orange in the cabs and floor? Some oaks can be pretty orangy and I'm not certain how orange wall would work with that.

I have Ben Moore 120 on my walls. Oh how I wish it had a better name It used to be called 'starfish' and that's certainly not better than 120. I went through quite a few samples to get the right shade, and took my swatches into the paint store and told the helper person what was wrong with each one (to brown, too tropical, too peachy, too bright, etc.) and she found 120 for me.

I'd post a pic but its really hard to get one that shows the color in any accurate way. Plus, the shade varies a bunch depending on the lighting in whatever part of the room you're in. Make certain you test your potential color in the well lit areas as well as the darker areas, and look at it at different times of day.

We have Ralph Lauren "Squash Blossom"

on two accent walls. BIG accent walls, as we have cathedral ceilings. I love it.

OK, it's not really orange, but anyway...

      Good luck!

I used Spiced Pumpkin in my old office/guest room. It was scary when I first started, but looked better when the whole room was finished. It was very warm. The people who bought the house loved it too.

my friends just used spiced pumpkin!

I like it a lot - I would try it on the whole room first! It's very warm and inviting.

We have one in our dining room that I really love - and it really is hard to find that right shade. I know we got it at Lowe's - I'll check the exact name when I get home later today.
