Temper-pedic beds? Worth the $$?

We so desperately need a new mattress. Dh and I canNOT agree on one, however. I need soft, he needs firm. All the ones that I liked (ultra pillowtop, nice and cushy) would give him pain. The only one we agreed on was the Temper-pedic memory foam one, since it IS supportive enough for him, but won't hurt my hips.

The problem is the cost. Just for the queen mattress, it's a bit over $2k. We have the money, but that would take all we have for "extras" for right now, and we wouldn't be able to get anything else for a while. Still, it would be worth it if I stopped having so much pain from sleeping on a too-hard mattress.

Anyone have one? Love it? Hate it?

We've had ours a few years now. I actually didn't like it at first. They said give it 30 days before you make a final decision.

I loved the fact (and I still love this feature) that DH didn't make the bed move every time he turned over. And we have been through several $$ mattresses in our marriage. Even doing the regular flipping and turning we would get a warped bed. DH is 200 lbs, I am 120.

I knew I couldn't live without the mattress the first time I slept at a hotel after owning it. Then I KNEW it was the bomb!!!

You never have to rotate it. It smelled for the first few weeks and we let it air out. LOVE it.

Ohhhhh yes. Best money we ever spent. I love that my hips don't hurt and I love that the bed doesn't shake when my husband tosses and turns.

We have had one for 3 years and I hated it the first 3 months. It was cofortable, but for the money I didn't think it was worth it. My husband of course swore by it from day one. After the first 3 months I got used to it and now I wouldn't change it for anything (except for maybe one of those sleep number beds). But honeslty, you can't put a price tag on a good nights sleep.

We've been intrigued by the temperpedic too but last time cut corners & got a pillow top. I don't recommend that! It was only a few years ago & we need to replace as the pillow has made little 'gulleys' where we sleep & while you can rotate it, you can't flip it. When the economy & our finances stabilize i think one of the things we'll splurge on is a new mattress. I LOVE my temperpedic pillow & need it when i travel....... we'll probably look at the mattress again. One thing - someone told me they were really warm. Fine for me but DH wasn't happy to hear that. That was from a friend who had just gotten one & i don't think had fully adjusted.

We had the Tempurpedic King and we hated it and got rid of it. Unfortunately, ours was $4k and I wanted to kill dh when he insisted we get it one year. We've gone through a few mattresses and both have horrible backs. I can't remember what we have now but it's not a numbers bed or anything high tech.

Keep looking. You both have to be happy at night when you sleep!

Yes, worth every cent. We've had ours for maybe four years now and still swear by it. You'll love it!

I think worth it..but I went for the Sealy Latex foam. My SO has a tempur. which I liked/he needs. But he actually likes this bed better (but still doesn't dislike the tempur.).

The latex is supposed to sleep cooler. He says he doesn't really notice a difference.

The latex bed was about $700 cheaper for a King size. I think you would like both.

Thanks everyone! We tried the sleep number, and I didn't like it at all. It felt like I was lying on an air mattress, which I don't like much. We tried the pillow tops, but every time I found one I liked, dh said no, it was too soft. We went ahead and ordered the Temper-pedic "deluxe" bed (not the firmest, but not the most expensive). It should be delivered tonight. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

we have an adjustable king tempurpedic

and have for 4yrs now. pros its comfy but does mold to your body after awhile...so horizontal bedroom games can become more challenging as you sink in and cant get leverage. i know way too much TMI but i wish someine had warned us.

also we live in the south and the thing radiates body heat....not good if you are peri menapause or post hysterectomy. that said, we are looking to replace it in a year or two. the leverage thing is beyond frustrating for us and my back
