  • ISO: small comfy reading chair for 10yo DD

    Any ideas?

She loves the groovy 70s papasan chairs but they are too big for her room. We have a nook we could put something in that's about 30" x 30".

We have a small bean bag there now -- but it's too little for her. I guess our default is to move to an adult sized bean bag but she'd like something with more support.

    TIA,
    Cynthia

Check out Target's papasan style chair...

They look a little more compact than the pier one type. My dd was looking at them the other day.

      What about a hanging chair?

      Something like this may fit:

I would love to do this in a room if we had the space. Unfortunately I think my rowdy boys would just swing on it rather than read on it.

what about those pillows that look like the top-half of an arm chair... you use them for reading in bed... i asked about them here some time ago and someone came back with the name but i've forgotten what it was... here is a link to a listing of different ones... they seem to be called different things depending on where you shop... i like the ones they show as coming from sears (altho' when i went to sears i couldn't find them)....

        http://www.nextag.com/reading-pillow/search-html

anyway, they are a little hard to find, but i finally did find them at, i think, homesense... got one for my 11 year old ds for his birthday and he seems to really like it... have a couple more in reserve for my two younger ones for their birthday which is coming up in october...

I agree with checking out target...

They have what they call butterfly chairs. They are a sort of papasan style but smaller and they also fold up flat, if needed. Super comfy. Both my dds have one and they love them.

This is what DD has. It folds if necessary and is not too large. They have them in bright colors. It is comfortable (even I like it!), and perfect for her room.

I read the entire Nancy Drew series in a Papasan

              Ahhhh. The memories.

Another vote for Target's butterfly chair. It fits the Papasan look and feel in a smaller version.

IKEA also has quite a bit of stuff that's cute and inexpensive, and smaller scale.

Can someone tell me if this is the right Target chair? *m*

I'm not sure how to post a direct link to the chair, or even a photo of the chair, but could someone check out this link and tell me if it's the Pink Sphere Chair for $39.99?

                  Thanks in advance,
                  Kat.

The sphere chair is the one that DD has. She loves it.

My 10 year old DD has this chair in her room too. She loves it and often reads or watches tv there. A regular papason (sp) chair wouldn't fit but this fits fine.

                          Tks everyone! More....

                          These are all great suggestions!

We've opened Pandora's box now -- what started as a few small changes might be turning into re-doing DD's room! Which is fine -- she's had the same decor since we moved her in when she was 4. So I told her we'd paint, hang different things on the wall, and possibly get new bedding (though I love her authentic quilt she uses now.)

Anyway, the nook is actually right when you walk into her room so an off the ground chair might look odd I've decided. We might go with some 'lounge seating' option like a club bean bag. I found really cool corner cushions on PB Teen -- but for $300! Not going there...

Or, we might get her a new bookcase that could fit in the entry way nook of her room and that would open up wall space next to her bed for a saucer or butterfly chair.

Wish her room weren't so small!!!

                          Cynthia

while they are comfy, they are not good for "curling up" in... just so you know... i have a couple in my den and i do like them, but i prefer the old futon couch more 'cos i'm not locked into sitting in one position which i pretty much am in the chairs...
