  • corner upper cabinet

Ok I have this lovely new kitchen but I have no idea how to use the upper corner cabinets. They are so weirdly shaped and I can't get a turntable in it. 18" one was too big but the next size down was 12" and that was too small.

So how do you use your corner cabinet if you don't have a lazy susan in it. Seems like it would be come a black hole

    thanks

I would probably use it to store things I use very rarely or seasonally. I have a similar lower corner cabinet that needs an expensive piece of European cabinet hardware to make it truly functional.

I'd get the 12 inch turn table, and then see if I still have enough room for a cereal box or something along the sides.

I have a lower corner cupboard with no lazy susan and yup, it's a black hole! I have old stuff I rarely use down there and put the large flat cutting boards and cookie sheets leaning along one side.

Are the shelves moveable at all? I've put lazy susans in both my Mom's upper corner cabinet and mine. I actually have turntables that fill the entire corner with a flat front (I don't think you can get those anymore). Anyhow, to get them in I had to lift the shelves up and down to get enough room for them to get on the shelves. I'll admit, it wasn't easy and they're not coming out until the cabinets do or they stop working Mine have been in for 17 1/2 years and my Mom's over 20.

I think the turntables are the best bet if you can get them in. Maybe a couple smaller ones if you can't fit the 18" in?

I have 2 corner uppers. I use one for rarely used dishes, stemware, serving trays, medicines and candy. The other is right above my Keurig. I keep mugs on the bottom shelf and face the upper (empty) shelves with boxes of K-cups.

I have turntables on my two lower corner cabinets...they're still blackholes so I load them up with rarely used items too. They both hold disposable food storage/serving stuff like paper plates, saran wrap, etc. Since I've stopped using and buying those things, I'm hoping to someday have two empty cabinets to fill with candles and holiday items...less to drag down from the attic!!

          Enjoy your new kitchen!

That's where the majority of our dishes go...

This is in the corner w/ cabinets on either side of it. The bottom shelf is large plates, small plates, and bowls. We put serving pieces (bowls, small platters) in the back. Second shelf has frequently used items (like a couple of cereal bowls) in the front and "dead" storage in the back, top shelf has wine glasses that we can reach in and grab and other less frequently used items behind (like vases, etc.). It really isn't the black hole that you might think. If you think it will be, use them for infrequently used items. We have a small kitchen w/ limited storage and we use that cabinet every day (and we don't have lazy susans on them).

I have pasta, rice, cereal, etc.

on my lower shelf. Popcorn, marshmallows, etc. on the middle shelf. The top shelf has some of my nice serving dishes, candy dishes, etc. that I really only use at Christmas time.

The big problem is I am short and they are very high. I can reach the bottom shelf completely and I put a lazy susan in there. The 2nd up shelf I also put a lazy susan and can just reach the edge on my tippy toes.

the top 2 shelves throughout the kitchen require me to stand on the counter. Its quite the sight.

I guess I just really need to think through what would be best to store there.
                thanks

We have a rolling footstool -- the kind that you used to always see in libraries. When you step on it, it locks down. We can kick it around w/ our feet, the kids use it at the counter, and if I need to reach something, I use it. I'm 5'3" and I can reach the bottom shelf easily, the middle shelf ok and a fully stretched body to get to the top shelf. I highly recommend the stool -- it comes in lots of colors too!

                  Here's a link to the stool: http://www.amazon.com/Cramer-1001WT-.../dp/B00092S8Q2

Thanks. I ordered a Retro chair from target. Its just like what my mom had in our kitchen growing up and I remember loving it. Hasn't come yet but I think it will help with the upper shelf issues.
