  • Looking for a lakefront cabin in Michigan

this summer. We want to be able to walk out of the cabin and straight to the lake for nice swimming. A pool would be nice, maybe a playground, but the lake is the most important. We will be spending 1 day in Detroit to visit DH's mom. He mentioned Traverse City I think? I don't know anything about Michigan! I envision though a nice cabin, maybe with a deck and bbq, lake views, swimming, relaxing, boating.

I am at a loss! Help!

No help... but can I come?

    That sounds idyllic!

There are so many beautiful lakes in Michigan. I would start by googling vrbo (vacation rental by owner) and see what you come up with.

I don't know specifically of any cabins for rent, but I can suggest a few nice lakes if you find rentals on them.

Lake Mullet outside of Cheboygan is about a 4 hour drive from Detroit, it's a beautiful clean lake.

Torch Lake and Elk Lake are also both beautiful spots and about 5 hours.

The big lakes are beautiful too, but warning, they will be cold.

I've always wanted to go to The Homestead in Glen Arbor, MI. I haven't been, but heard good things about it. I think
It depends on how far you want to drive once you're finished with your visit in Detroit. Check out Michigan.org. It will help you decide on a region and then you can take it from there. Be open to lakes near Lake Michigan (or dunes and state parks). Homestead I believe is near Sleeping Bear Dunes. Lake Michigan is typically pretty cold for swimming until beginning of July. Smaller lakes, earlier June. And remember the further north you are it could mean a a few weeks behind in terms of weather.
