  • great wolf lodge poconos

    ]Hi ladies,
We just booked our family vaca for August. We got a great deal. In the spring, we went to the Great Escape/Six Flags waterpark and had a blast!! There were things for all of us. The kids had so much fun, so we thought we would do it again, and funny thing is GWL is only one more hour of driving than GEL from Mass. Anyone go to GWL? Looking for opinions etc. Thanks.

    Been to W

We went to GWL in Michigan (Traverse City) so I can give you opinion on that. The waterpark was a big hit with my 3 1/2 year old girls and my 9 and 11 year old nephew and niece. I like the wide variety of slides so my little ones could do some things independently and they had a blast. We got one of the suite rooms and it was great - separate bedroom we could put the young ones down to sleep and then play cards and socialize in the other part of the room. We ordered room service one time - that was disappointing, even for kids food. I was very glad we brought a cooler full of snacks and drinks for the room. The towels they provide for the park are very thin and wimpy, and they ran out frequently, so you should get some before you need them, or bring your own. Check in for us was at 1:00 pm and it was an HOUR wait in the line, so I would either arrive late or REALLY early to get in line. Very kid friendly hotel. Overall, a fun experience! The kids talk about the big bucket dumping water on them still and we recreate that in the bathtub all the time, and they occasionally ask if we can go back there again sometime.

Hope you have a great time! jody

      Honestly ...

I think it is a pity to go to an *indoor* water park in the summer. That's probably why the deal is so good, but the idea kind of gives me the willies. It seems really American - like huge malls skybridges and other things so you don't need to go outside.

I can definitely see going there in the wintertime, but in August there are so many fun outdoor places to go (like the lakes in Maine), I'd do that instead.

My sister's family did go to the one in Williamsburg last spring and had a great time. The weater stunk so it was a great thing to do. They did say the food is absolutly awful and expensive, so bring a cooler.

Well, I'm sure its much cheaper! (m) ...

That place is sooooo expensive. We looked to go this winter, and a room for a family my size was about $500 PER NIGHT with no food. There was no way we could spend that. I never thought of going in the summer, though. I'm going to see how much cheaper it is! I don't think being at an indoor place in the summer is that bad. Heck, it's been raining here so much this summer, that being at an indoor park seems like a good idea!

I had never heard of the place before but my kids and I adore waterparks (dh could take it or leave it). So I checked out the website and wound up booking a room for President's Day weekend next year. I got a family sized suite (w/ fireplace and 2 TVs) for about $400 a night. It would have cost about $100 less a night for a non-holiday weekend. If I can convince my sister to go, I could try to change for their biggest suite which sleeps 8 and costs $600 a night.

I am psyched. I despise February and this will be something nice too look forward to. So thanks! LOL You'll have to let me know how your stay goes.

We went to Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg in March. It was absolutely INCREDIBLE - one of our best vacations ever. The kids had a complete blast, and so did DH and I. We were very sad to leave. We got the family fireplace suite and the room was very spacious. The outdoor pool was not open when we were there since it was March, but it looks like a lot of fun in the summer with live music, etc. The indoor pools and hot tubs were great. I just can't say enough good things about Great Wolf Lodge. DH and I hope to visit the one in the Poconos next and then the newly opened one in Niagara. We're going to hit them all eventually And this is coming from "anti-organized entertainment" type of people.
