  • sweet pickles / bread & butter pickles?

It looks like a good year for the cucumber vines in the garden!

Does anyone have a tried-and-true recipe for sweet pickles / refrigerator pickles / bread & butter pickles they'd like to share? I've been making old-fashioned pickle-crock dill pickles like my grandma used to make, but I'm ready to try something new.

    Thanks in advance!

This is the recipe I use for bread and butter pickles.

1 gallon medium sized sliced cukes
    4 cups vinegar
    4 cups white sugar
    1 1/2 tsp tumeric
    2 TBSP mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp celery seed
    1/2 tsp cloves

Wash and drain cucumbers. Put into a large pan and fill with water to cover cucumbers. Sprinkle generously wth salt. Let stand overnight. Drain and rinse again thoroughly. Place back into large saucepan. Add remaining ingredients and heat to near boiling. Ladle into wide-mouthed sterile jars, leaving 1/2" headspace. Process in boiling-water bath for 15 minutes.

**I slice these particular pickles really thin. I use a mandolin on the thinnest setting and these are the BEST bread and butter pickles and I make these every year.

    HTH!

      Thanks Shawna!

I think I'll have to give these a try. Heaven knows, I pulled out close to a gallon o' cucumbers from my garden just tonight! :-)

      Cheers,
