  • I have a two hour round trip commute daily (m)

Looking to pass the time. I have a ton of ebooks but I can only read for so long. I have an ipad and can stream. Any great streaming apps and what are you favorite shows to watch? Unfortunately I can't watch too much junk because the popular junk is always a year behind. Do you use Hulu, netflix, xfinity, etc. and what do you watch? Perhaps Downtown Abby or that show with Claire Daines? I know there is a bunch of new series I would never have time to watch at home. Thanks in advance.

We use Netflix and Amazon Prime at home. Netflix is 7.99 a month for unlimited streaming, and Amazon is, I believe, $79 for the year, also unlimited streaming. (Plus free 2 day shipping on a lot of things).

Both work well--there's a fairly large selection of shows, some overlap between the 2 services. Was conisdering hulu+, but I've read that there's a lot of advertising for a paid service. That turned me off.

Hope you find something amusing for your commute--nice that you don't have to drive it!

we use Hulu+, amazon and netflix .

Hulu+ does have commercials, but DH blocks them after they are seen, so that is not too much of an issue.

We don't have cable anymore - so this is all we use..

It's on my list to get xfinity up and running..

Also, look into Slingbox! Basically, control and watch your home's tv (and DVR!) from your Ipad, Iphone, etc.

Ok, thanks for that reminder becuause now I will have DS set that up I would LOVE to be pulling off shows that I can custom DVR. Hopefully our version of the machine isn't outdated already. Thanks for the reminder and thanks to everyone else for the advice too.

Is amazon like netflix? Do u find there is more selection than netflix? We have netflix, and apple tv. Looking to cancel our satellite...and wondering if amazon will be a nice replacement to the satellite. Also-what is xfinity?

Very similar. There's a lot of overlap. But, enough of a difference that it's worth it for us. (We do not have cable or satellite tv.)

We ditched cable and have Hulu Plus and Amazon. Most current shows are on Hulu Plus (the day after they air) except for CBS. DH and are in the middle of a West Wing marathon at the moment - we LOVE that show and have been staying up waay too late to watch multiple episodes.

How do you block the commercials on Hulu +?

we got this also - we are not using it now .. but I remember the box was about 100-200$ ?

We just did not hook up again when we moved - and now we cancelled the cable ..

I will ask him for specifics, but I know it is basically the next day he looks at our router for all IPs/websites that came through the night before while we were watching and then you can block them based on name, so what happens when you watch there is about a 1-3second pause when the router is blocking and then it goes right away to the show again... makes it much nicer!!

Reading through an ebook is not an easy task. First of all, you need a high-speed internet connection and a router just like as best router for a college apartment. This type of internet connection can provide you best experience of ebook reading.
