  • How old is your car? (m)

Please understand that in posting this, I have severe car jealousies! LOL!

I swear that I am the only person anywhere that drives an older car. So, how old (or new) is your car? Just curious.

BTW- my car is a 1998.

    1993 Subaru Loyale Wagon - I'd love a 98!

I bought mine new, and I'm wanting to replace it next year with either a Toyota Matrix or a Honda Fit, used, a year or two old. We also have a 2002 Toyota Sienna XLE - our nicest car even, and since I just had wrist surgery and can't shift my Subaru - I get to drive the van for another week -

Don't feel bad... we have three cars (we are in the process of selling one). One is a 1992 (I think, that's DH's car), one is a 1996, and one is a 2000. As you can tell, I am not a new-car addict. I don't really care what I drive as long as it's safe and it gets me where I want to go. I absolutely *hate* car payments so we don't have any!

          It's a 2001.

Five years old, paid off, and ours until it dies now!

Our last car was 9 years old when we had to upgrade to something a bit larger. I still see it around town sometimes.

Seriously, I am insane when it comes to cars. I look at all of them out on the road, I spend too much time at edmunds.com looking at them, etc. But, no, a car is not in the cards right now. Oh, but how I would love one. I have had my car for so long that I am just sick of it and it seems like I am the only one that I know with an older car. Everyone else seems to be driving new minivans/SUV's.

And guess what? My car only has 83,000 miles on it so I am afraid to say that it will most likely last me several more years. Sigh! So, I will still be driving it when it is 10 years old. May still be driving it when it is 12 years old- you get the picture! LOL!

              We have two 2000 minivans...

Dh's is paid off next month, so of course the 'check engine' light came on this week. It's in the shop now getting over $500 worth of repairs. The plan was to pay it off and drive it until it dies, so if this investment helps us do that, I'm okay with it. It has over 130,000 miles on it already so I'm really not holding my breath.

Mine is a 2000 also, with almost as many miles, but it's a cushier ride than dh's and it's in better shape. I don't mind it for another couple years until the kids truly outgrow it. Five kids growing into their adult sizes won't last too much longer in the minivan.

I have occasional new-car envy, but I know that these people in frequent new cars are paying a fortune in monthly payments and are probably majorly upside-down in their loans. That eases the jealousy.

                  We have two...

We have a 2005 Subaru Outback, and we just replaced our 1998 VW (which DH totaled last month) with a similar 1999 VW.

We don't expect to be in the market for a new car for many years. But I'm like you -- always looking at the new models and dreaming, LOL.

                    We have 3 vans

and will be selling one soon. Each has approx 100,000 miles. Two are 1996 Dodge Caravans, the other is a 1998 Plymouth van. We hope to drive them into the ground and avoid car payments for as long as possible (there are repairs and maintenance costs though).

Occasionally I get new car envy. But one of the big advantages to a used car (aside from no payments, low insurance and cheap license plates) is that while I try to keep them clean and in good shape, its nice not to worry when something gets spilled or we have a tiny door ding. I'd be way too uptight about a new car and trying to keep it "new".

                      2001 minivan and 2000 4 door car.

The car we purchased used when we moved to CO.

We will probably get a new van in the next year or two (I should say AFTER another year or two). Main reason is that I have 3 kids and often carry others in the van. Ours does not have shoulder belt in the very back middle seat (and youngest dd is almost out of the marathon) and the van only seat 7 max. I want one with the middle belt AND that seats 8.

However, poor dh will keep his little car (or inherit the older van) and be stuck for a few more years. lol

I wouldn't feel one bit bad about having an older car so long as it's working for you.

I drive an 06 Yukon Denali XL, it has 10,000 miles on it and just bought it in April. Luckily, no car payments for us.

I have small car envy - I'm not too fond of driving the big rig around, although it fits all the kids and hockey gear much better than the mini van.

                          We have a '77, a '92 and a '05

Guess which one is MY car? LOL

He drives the '92 van to work and we use it for family stuff. It's fine by me although the water pump just blew.

DH is into "classic" cars. The latest is a '77 Cordoba

                              we have 3, 1998, 2001 and 2004

dh refused to sell our 1998 - he loves it. and it turned out to be good because he is giving it to his brother who is moving out of manhattan soon.

We had to buy a different car in 2001 because we had twins so we bought a station wagon. then in 2004 i was pg again so we bought a minivan
