  • Help! PS2, Xbox or GameCube?????

We are thinking about getting our boys (ages 5, 5 and 8) a game system for Christmas. We are not even considering one of the new systems, but are really ignorant about the whole "game system" thing. Does anyone have a PS2, Xbox or GameCube? Can you recommend one? We were thinking the GameCube maybe...it's my understanding the GameCube's controller buttons are like the GameBoy Advance (they have GBA's and do well w/ them).

    TIA!!!
Trying get in the CHRISTmas spirit!

What I would do is go to Walmart or other

place where you buy the video games and see which one you think has the most games for your children. From what I've found, PS2 and XBox I think have more mature games. Gamecube has more games for younger children. Maybe it is just where I'm buying, but I'd check that out for sure!

I'd get an $88 Gamecube (on sale at Target? this week) and a few extra controllers. I think that for your kids' ages the games on that system are the best. My 3 like Mario Kart, Super Monkeyball, Animal Crossing, Mario Party, DSs like Lego Star Wars II which does have shooting. We all like Mario Dance Dance Revolution, the list goes on.

Gamecube is better for that age group and has lots more games, age realted, for them. My ds, 7, loves his.

We're a Gamecube house. Got it last year for Hannukah and it still is a big hit. Dh and I like it as much as the kids! Be careful with SuperMonkey Ball ... it's seriously addicting (LOL!). By the way, my older 2 are 7.5 and 5.5, and there are plenty of games for both of them. From what I see, there are plenty of games they can grow with as well.

By the time your guys are old enough to play the older games, it'll be time for a new system anyway - new bells and whistles all the time. I asked the same question of this board last year and it was overwhelmingly in favor of GC, due to the amount of games for the 4 - 10 set.

I got DS's GC last Christmas for $99 and that included Mario Cart 7.

We have the GameCube and I vote for that. My 6 yo DS really likes it, and there are a lot of games rated "E." My sister has the PlayStation, but her kids (6 and 5 yo boys) want a GameCube instead (probably because it works with their Gameboy).

My 7yo is getting a (used) GameCube....

We got it for like $50 from Blockbuster with an extra controller and the adapter so his GameBoy games will play on it.
Main reason in getting it was because of the games. Much better selection of games for this system. (non violent)
