Can I freeze sugar cookies? before or after decorating?

I realize the time is getting away from me. I know I will want to make cut out sugar cookies for the kids school parties, but will be too pressed for time when the time comes. Can I make these ahead and freeze? should I freeze them before they are decorated adn then pull them out and decorate a day or two before the party? Or should I decorate and everything now and then freeze?

I've done both...I couldn't tell the difference b/t the ones I

decorated earlier and those I decorated the night before I needed them. I'd whichever is most convenient.

If they are decorated with icing they tend to chip

and don't look as good. I would decorate after. If they are sprinkles then they are fine to decorate now and freeze.
