Rock and Roll San Antonio 1/2M.....I ran it Sunday with 25,000 friends :-) It was 35 degrees at the start - cold for Texas but clear and sunny. The race was fun with bands and cheerleaders and great crowds. The course was mainly flat except for a really steep hill the last .2 mile leading to the finish! I ran with my friend doing her first 1/2 and had a 12 minute PR myself! All in all, a good day!

First half marathon last Sunday....under 2 hours!

I ran the San Antonio RNR in 1:57....very proud of my accomplishment...no injuries, tough last 3 miles, but I persevered. I plan to run another one again and may even contemplate a full someday.

          Yippee for me!

Now see, we could have met!!

I ran in coral 6...and you're right about the cold...BRRR...I bought those silly white rip-off outfits, but they came in handy! Good job on your PR - what was your final time?

              Congrats Julie!

That's a great time - these long distance races are addicting aren't they? I have already plotted out my Spring races and Fall marathon for next year.

You should be very pleased with yourself! I hope you had a big bowl of ice cream to celebrate!

Fantastic! Doesn't if feel good! And you had a great time!
I finished in 2:07 which was a 12 minute PR. I'm slow but getting a little faster. Do you live in San Antonio? I drove down from Austin and stayed overnight Saturday night. First marathon will be Austin in February. Did my first 17 mile run Saturday and it was very hilly and hard.

Yikes....17 miles....I'm still amazed at how long a marathon is and that I actually ran 13 in one stop. But ya know, it's doable. I think I'll run another half - maybe even 2....and then maybe I'll do a full. It just seems like the half is fun, the full is torture. And that last hill in the half just about did me in - I can only imagine how the hills must be!!

I live in Abilene - about 2.5hrs west of Ft. Worth (aka middle of nowhere!). I stayed w/a friend and then 4 of us stayed downtwon Sunday night - we limped around, but had a pretty good time anyway.

Good luck with your training....I'm searching around for another half in April/May. I like having the focus of training for something - it gave me a sense of ID....is that weird?

Not weird at all. I like training for a goal and am afraid once I complete the marathon I won't want to do anything! There is a new women's 1/2 marathon in April in Bastrop. Sounds like it could be fun. http://races.zoomarun.com/austin.html

I'll mark this down...this might be at just the right time for me....kids still in school, but gives me a chance to enjoy the holidays before starting training again.

                      Thanks!

Anyone else run a Turkey Trot over the weekend?

I ran my local 5K one on Saturday. I really enjoy this race mainly because it is in my hometown and has a very local flair to it...the Cub Scouts man the one water station and almost everyone that runs in it is from my town or the neighboring one.

With that said I was happy with my time but man is my age group tough! For this race I'm in the Masters (YIKES!) - I'm guessing because it is such a small race Masters is 40 and over. If I was in any other age group I would have come in first or second - I placed 4th in my age group! Us old ladies are sure tough

Hope you all had a nice long Thanksgiving weekend,

                        Bettina

                          sounds fun!

I only took up running road races a few years ago and thought to myself: Cool! I'll be 40 soon and will be the fastest in my age group because I'll be the youngest --- NOT! They all got FASTER even if they are almost 10 years older than me!

I think the over 40 group is so competitive because only the really good people stick with it. Anyone average or less probably injures themself or quits for a lower impact sport.

A woman in my running club is 42 and she recenlty set a PR with a sub-3 hour marathon! She does about 4 a year, in between the tons of other races she does. This year alone she has ran over 200 miles in races!!!

Meanwhile, I did one marathon almost 2 years ago and I'm still recovering! LOL!
