You are right. It is indefensible. Which is one of many reasons that Rev. Wright would not be a good candidate for president.

I'm sure that he will be elected tomorrow. . Right now, to me, he's an unknown and it's completely legit to be worried about that. I hope and pray that he's great. I truly feel that anyone who says otherwise doesn't love our country.

      C.
Can I ask you something? Have you read anything he has written? We know a HUGE amount about this man. He wrote two books, by himself, laying out his life and then his beliefs on everything from race to party politics to economics to faith. They are both very personal, but the 2nd one is quite detailed about his political and economic beliefs. Honesty, I can't think of a president who has been more open and clear about his beliefs, and they are pretty darn moderate.

It seems to me that people take tiny snippets, isolated incidents, etc. and blow them up into some huge scenario that paints him as some kind of stealth candidate who isn't who we think he is, but who he is doesn't really seem to be much of a secret.

I've been following Obama's career for a long time, and he isn't on the cusp of the presidency by accident. He isn't on the cusp of the presidency by luck, or by manipulation either. He has fought to earn every vote, every donation. It isn't a coincidence, in particular, that he won in Iowa, where you meet practically every freaking voter before the caucuses. He won them over. And, largely he won them over because the message that he sends is so completely counter to the way politics has been taking place for the past 16 years.

      Please give him a chance.

Yeah, people don't know about McCain doing that because it got some minor coverage buried at the bottom of all the election coverage. But when Obama bumps some reporters it's HEADLINE NEWS! To be repeated for AT LEAST THREE DAYS! But the media is STILL BIASED! LOL

What!!? You mean the COLLEGE I went to and where my dh and I both got our PROFESSIONAL degrees and where my dh now works isn't really a college? Strange since we also have a medical school. That would be news to the people in this college town!

Thanks for the extremely heartfelt post....

and I do not mean that sarcastically. My vote tomorrow will not be against Obama. I have been waiting for a long time to vote for McCain. I told my Mom in 2000 that I thought he would be a great candidate. I don't "see" myself in the democratic party anymore. I used to think fiscally I was a republican and on social issues I was a democrat, but I no longer identify at all with the democratic party.

But to answer your post, I will continue to love my country warts and all. I would never want to move away because of the election results. I won't put every patriotic thought I have into this post, because it would hurt me to hear any ***************y comments about it.

I still don't think that writing two books can qualify you to be president, but if he's elected he'll definitely have my respect. My trust he will need to earn. That comment is not meant to sound mean....just truthful.

I think it keeps coming up because you haven't got anything else to talk about. Honestly, I don't think people actually think these guilt-by-association things are a problem.

I do have not problem with them on any level. If Obama has done any of the things these people had done that would be a different question. It's just grasping at straws.

The thing that I was getting at was not the

associations but the denials and constant "I didn't know". Just admit it....

It just reminds me that Iraq seems like a replay of Vietnam, and I also think it brings up the possibility of PTSD which is not going to help him get elected.

Don't forget he did actually tell the North Vietnamese everything they wanted to know. Who can say what we'd have done in those circumstances but the fact that he trades on it disgusts me at a really viceral level - which is why I haven't said much about it. I think it has to do with what my own father and our family went throughas a consequence of him being in Vietnam. Everytime I hear about it I feel physically ill.

I appreciate your wilingness to give him the benefit of the doubt. My comment about the books was that you said he is an unknown. I agree that writing 2 books doesn't qualify you to be president. My point is that people keep saying we don't know anything about him, but if you read his books you actually learn a TON about him.
