As you know, we are getting wonderful support on a weekly basis for DS. Well, no suprise, the doctor is leaving. There will be a replacement, who will report into the same head doctor there (which is a good thing) but things were going so well and this doctor knew her meds and seemed to 'get' DS. Most people don't. I trusted her, and I can't say that about many doctors these days.
I had a meeting with DS's teacher letting her know that with the new (formal) diagnosis of ADHD, I would be requesting an IEP. Though he doesn't have one, she pretty much treats him like he does, which I am grateful for. She asked my permission to have the classroom aide take him for a 2-min daily "stretch/walk" in the hallway at 1:30 because that is when he completely loses it and she doesn't want the positive morning to turn negative for him and for him to leave feeling badly about the day, when in fact it's just the end that he loses focus. She understands my son and cares about him. I left there holding back tears because the reality is, we only have two more months with this amazing teacher who has made this a more successful year for DS than I could have even imagined.
I enjoyed the good year, and will brace for the new doctor...and new teacher.
