This place is just up the road from Raquette Lake where we like to camp (going in mid August). We go to Indian Lake for Ice Cream and the playground as one of our little jaunts out of the campground LOL!

Thanks all for the great ideas...

I appreciate ALL of your suggestions and the idea of considering the NE.

After discussing with DH tonight, we are leaning toward Boston for three or four days and then out to Cape Cod or Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard for about five days. If you have specific suggestions as to things to do in Boston with kids (will be 6.75 at the time of the trip) who enjoy a variety of things, I would appreciate it. Things unique to Boston would be great (as opposed to something like a children's museum).

Also, if you have recommendations on which you would prefer of the other options (CC, Nantucket, or MV) I'd really appreciate that. And finally, if you have recommendations on hotels (thanks chp), I'd love that too. No hurry, as I won't be making firm plans until sometime in the next month or two.

I vote for Virginia since I live there m

You can do the beach, visit Busch Gardens, get some history, play golf, and well, meet me, in my neck of the woods (Williamsburg). Technically it is hurricane season here in August but this part of southeastern VA is not as subject to hits as the North Carolina coast is. The only hurricane of note here in many, many years was Isabel.

            Man I miss Boston!

Well, the children's museum in Boston is awesome (just in case it rains). The Aquarium is a lot of fun. The statues of the ducks (from the book Make Way for Ducklings) are always a hit with kids. Duck Boat tours are a good choice.

I love the north end, but I lived there pre kids, so I'm not sure how much the kids would like there. Definitely good italian food though.

I loved nantucket, but never been to MV.

            Enjoy!

Wilderness resort at the Wisconsin Dells is awesome. There are also a few cool places fairly nearby to visit--a railway museum and a circus museum.

We loved the wilderness resort. inside and outside pools, restaurants, inside arcade, waterslides. . .

              very fun.

My dh and I did this exact vacation a few years ago, although sans kids. We had a fabulous time. In Boston be sure to visit the Public Garden and Boston Commons and the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, both good for kids. In Cape Cod we stayed at the Ocean Edge resort in Chatham. www.oceanedge.com. Have fun!
