At least it doesn't have shoulder pads

I am dreading the return of the 80s fashions. At least in the 80s I weighed 103 pounds and could wear the "skinny black pant." Now....not so much.

        Oh dear lord...

why cannot I be spared from living through these times again? WHy must the clothing designers keep bringing back what which was awful and horrible the first time?

I take that back. They bring it back and make it WORSE. Now the "narrow black pant" is low rise with buttcrack options. When they brought back bell-bottomes, the waists were scooped down to create Muffin Top in anyone who had any flesh on their bones. The new puffed sleeves are on skintight tops. The new shift-dress-over-leggings is seethrough and has spagetti straps.

So its not just "what goes around, comes around," its more like we're in a whirlpool of fashion that is slowly sucking us down the drain, getting less and less flattering to the average woman's body with every rotation.

Mild puff like that shirt is cute. It's barely more than a slightly gathered cap sleeve.

Now the question still remains if I want to wear it and look like I'm 12......

the horror... the horror... no, not puffy sleeves! Especially the long ones on the ruffly white pirate shirts worn with knickers, aauughhhh. Shoulder pads, big hair and rouge-sculpted cheekbones must be right around the corner...

And I'm with Sara, I can't believe these designers have the NERVE to bring back skinny leg pants and then make them low rise! Talk about adding insult to injury for the average woman. And I mean woman, not teenage girl, and a skinny one at that.

I kinda like it. It's a small puffy sleeve.

              Now, this...............is hideous.

That shirt looks like my very first sewing project!

Yuck! I refuse to go there again.

I just realized how people start dressing like old people. It's not that they suddenly change their taste or anything and start liking old people clothes. What must happen is that they are willing to follow trends up to the point where the designers bring back all the hideous stuff they wore as teenagers/young adults, and they refuse and keep wearing what they feel is flattering and comfortable. Before long, several trends have passed you by and you are dressing like an old woman!

If you wore it the first time it was a trend

Then you shouldn't wear it again. Especially skinny pants/leggings, although I wish my hips would allow it.

Am I the only one who thinks this shirt is cute?

I think this blue shirt is very cute and stylish and I like the black one Katie Holmes is wearing. Is there anyone out there who also thinks these are ok to wear? I'm thirty four and petite and I would love either of these with jeans and boots

                        frightening, huh?

The designers have anorexic people to deal with. I actually heard one ridiculing that one guy for sending too skinny models home, she was saying "everyone knows clothes look better on a skinny girl" well eff you sweetheart, that's what I say!

The total pirate ship puffy shirt thing from a burda mag within the last year isn't online or I'd post it--it's frightening...

Some of the puffy sleeves are really cute, I think. There's a jacket I should scan in later to show y'all, it's cute--I dare you to say you don't like it, lol!~

do you like this one, puffy sleeve h8ers?

This is part of a "latin look" section in burda. I like the jacket, but I wouldn't use that stitching, I don't think.

On a side note, what's with the pants?

Am I imagining it, or do these pants have two sets of belt loops -- one higher, and one down low to hold the belt in that low-slung "Hey, I've looped my belt outside my pants" kind of way.

Plus - low-slung belt over pleated pants? Even I, khaki-afficionado that I am, don't think that's a good way to combine trends...
